Dittmann leads the way at Brands

A nail-biting qualifying session this morning at Brands Hatch saw 2012 F3 Cup Champion Chris Dittmann score pole position for the first race of the weekend.

This weekend, the championship is supporting the Supercar Challenge on the full GP circuit, and conditions were ideal for qualifying as the sun shone in Kent. Robbie Watts was quick to set the pace, and led the standings for the early part of the session. Wade Eastwood was another who found his form early on, with Dittmann in pursuit.

Championship leader Jacopo Sebastiani seemed to be struggling for pace early on, with main rival Shane Kelly lapping faster than him. Kelly must be on top form this weekend if he is to keep his title hopes alive, and certainly had the pace to do that this morning.

With less than 10 minutes on the clock, the session turned into the Dittmann vs. Watts Show - each trading fastest times to take the lead. The gap between them dropped to as little as 0.038s at one point, and no sooner had one crossed the line than the other followed, fractions of a second quicker.

Ultimately, Dittmann would just be able to outpace Watts, with Wiltshire coming home third. Teammates Eastwood and Sebastiani were next, with Kelly ahead of Cian Carey and Daryl Jones.

F3 Cup's first race of the weekend takes place at 14:50 this afternoon (9 September). Live updates and timing will be available at www.f3cup.co.uk/LIVE
