Eastwood makes it five!

CF Racing's Wade Eastwood continued his winning streak at Silverstone this afternoon as he completed a lights to flag victory on the GP circuit.

A much better start for Shane Kelly in this race gave the UWR driver a stonger chance to keep pace with Eastwood, and as they entered the Maggotts/Becketts complex the two were side-by-side. Reigning champion George Line also had a much better start, managing to pass Kelly to take second for a spell early in the race. Similarly Gino Ussi made up five places in the first lap alone.

Kelly would pass Line back on the second lap, with Watts, Jones and Sebastiani behind fighting for fourth place. Within a couple of laps, Watts was pressuring Line and the traffic allowed Eastwood to secure a comfortable lead in the middle stages.

Line was handed a 10 second penalty as he was judged to have jumped the start, which theoretically dropped him a number of places, though he remained fourth on the road. As Jones began to catch up, Sebastiani pulled away and this made it difficult for Jones to catch the car which was actually ahead of him in the times. Nonetheless, Line continued to show a much improved pace in this race after a difficult start to his 2017 campaign.

Into the second half of the race, Kelly picked up his pace and began to hunt down the leader. A few warning flags were issued for track limits as the drivers tried to find every tiny advantage in a tight field, with only Tony Bishop falling foul to a five second penalty.

Newcomer Jonathan Hughes was running very well, on pace with some very experienced F3 Cup racers, but contact with Robbie Watts resulted in both drivers having to retire. Line and Jones enjoyed a close battle, swapping positions repeatedly, and Heffernan and Ussi also jostled for position.

As the flag fell, Eastwood collected his fifth victory in a row, a clean sweep at Silverstone. Kelly's second place secures his second ranking in the overall standings, while Sebastiani's strong weekend extends his championship lead as F3 Cup heads to Snetterton for its next rounds on 12/13 August.
