Snetterton Summer Showdown

(08.08.17) After a couple of thrilling weekends at Silverstone in June and July, F3 Cup heads to Norfolk this weekend (12/13 August) to tackle Snetterton's 300 circuit. An earlier visit this year saw the field stretch their legs on the 200 layout, but the full circuit adds the highly technical infield section to really challenge both driver and machine.

Now into the second half of the season, Jacopo Sebastiani (CF Racing) currently tops the championship standings, 17 points ahead of earlier leader Shane Kelly. The University of Wolverhampton Race Team's Kelly started the year strong, with a clean sweep of victories at Donington, but a DNF at Silverstone National cost him dearly and Sebastiani's consistent top-four finishes have allowed him to seize control. Irishman Cian Carey sits third in the table, despite being forced to miss the Silverstone GP round due to mechanical issues, and will be looking to make up for that this weekend. Two F3 Cup stalwarts complete the top five, with Team Fox's Robbie Watts and CF Racing's Stuart Wiltshire ahead of reigning Champion George Line.

Going by his current form, Wade Eastwood is certainly one to watch this weekend. Eastwood has won every race he has entered this year, an enviable record, and will be keen to maintain that. CF Racing team mate James Heffernan has had a rather mixed season, although a win here at Snetterton in May stands him in good stead for this weekend.

Another long term F3 Cup resident, Tony Bishop's results so far this year haven't truly reflected the hard work going on behind the scenes, but he is making strong progress with his new Dallara F311. Gino Ussi continues to impress on his return to the championship after a number of years; the Italian driver has settled in well at Chris Dittmann's eponymous squad, racing in aid of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

Mid-pack battles have been a strong feature of the racing this year, with David Gillett, Peter Venn, Mark Harrison, Richard Purcell, Phillip Jeans, Malcolm Scott and Adrian Holey all enjoying tight competition while scoring valuable points for the Teams' Championship. Of the less frequent visitors this year, Daryl Jones has performed well after a strong 2016 campaign, while Jonathon Hughes, Tim Buckley, Omar Gazzaz and Paolo Brajnik all ran well at Silverstone. Joining the championship this weekend is Baptiste Leonard from France, racing in a Chris Dittmann Racing prepared Dallara F308, and Oliver Sirrell who will pilot Malcolm Scott's car as he is absent due to injury.

F3 Cup will qualify at 10:50 on Saturday (12 August), with a 15 minute race at 14:40 that afternoon. There will be two races on Sunday, at 10:35 (15 minutes) and 13:30 (20 minutes). Live timing and updates will be available at www.f3cup.co.uk/LIVE
