Needham thoroughly satisfied with Spa podium
14/06/2011 - MSV F3 Cup race winner experiences a weekend of mixed emotions
14/06/2011 - He may have endured a weekend of mixed emotions but Chris Needham leaves Spa thoroughly satisfied with his efforts.
The experienced single seater racer suffered the disappointment of a retirement in Saturday's first race, but he finished the weekend on a high with a podium in class in Sunday's race two.
Needham's Spa Francorchamps experience began well with a strong performance in the first qualifying session, which netted him sixth on the grid and second in class. His pace continued in the second qualifying session, securing eighth on the grid for race two.
However, his fortune turned in race one after being involved in an accident on lap six. Needham damaged his front wing in the incident, but it was enough to end his race prematurely. The MSV F3 Cup Donington Park race winner responded well in race two, as he produced an impressive drive to a deserved fifth overall and second in class.
He said: "It was a fantastic weekend all round really and I'm looking forward to going back next year. It was something else to be on the podium and a great feeling. I think at one point I went from sixth position to second at one corner, which was an experience."
The MSV F3 Cup heads to the Brands Hatch Indy circuit for round five on July 16-17. For more information on the event please CLICK HERE. To find out more information on Chris Needham please CLICK HERE.
