Steele looking to F2 after completing F3 Cup prize Barcelona test

15/12/2011 - F3 Cup star driver Aaron Steele says he's targeting a full FIA F2 campaign next year after promising test.

15/12/2011 - British F3 Cup star driver Aaron Steele says he's targeting a full season in the FIA Formula Two Championship next year after enjoying a promising test debut in Barcelona.

The 22-year-old Brit joined a host of new and returning international drivers during the recent test at the 4.655km Spanish circuit, which was part of his reward for his F3 Cup achievements this season.

Steele, who dominated the F3 Cup this year with 14 wins from 18 races, made an encouraging start to his F2 debut to run 11th fastest in the first session and continued to show consistent pace to regularly feature just outside the top 10. His best performance came in session three with a quickest time of 1:39.495s - just under two seconds off the leader's pace.

Speaking afterwards Steele said: "This is a new car and a new circuit for me so it took time to adapt. I'm used to being several seconds ahead of the pace rather than the other way round! It also took a while to adjust to the power of the brakes as the car stops so quickly and therefore to find the right braking zone. I also had to work at trying to get the best from the tyres and also left-foot braking which is something I have never done before.

"Overall though it was a positive day and I'm happy with my pace which was 1.9s off the top. I know I need to work on my braking and also the overboost facility, but I would very much like to be racing in F2 next year and things are looking promising although I know this depends on budget so we'll have to see."
