23/10/2011 - Aaron Steele has won an opportunity to take part in an official FIA Formula Two Championship test after winning the F3 Cup driver of the year award.

The 22-year-old has been a dominant force in the MSVR run F3 Cup, winning 14 of the 18 races this season, including victories at Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Spa Francorchamps, Anglesey and Oulton Park. In acknowledgement of his achievements this season, Steele was presented with the Formula Two test drive at the final round of the F3 Cup series at Oulton Park last Saturday  22 October.

Steele, who has previously tested in A1GP, rounded off the F3 Cup season at the Cheshire circuit with an impressive drive from the back of the grid to win the final race of the year. The former Formula Palmer Audi racer was a worthy winner of the F3 Cup's most meritorious driver award and is eager to get behind the wheel of an F2 car and thrilled by the possibility of joining the championship next season.

A delighted recipient, Aaron said: "It's been a fantastic year and it's really good to end it on a high. To get the F2 test is fantastic, I had an inkling I would get it after all the wins, pole positions and fastest laps, but to actually have it now in the bag is a relief. Things are moving onwards and upwards and I would like to thank all the team, especially my dad (Kevin), who has really put himself on the line this year to get me out racing and its worked.

"The F2 car will be quick for me but I will just have to get on top of it. Hopefully I will do a good job in the test and you never know I might be able to sell that a bit and get myself on the grid next year."

After recording a string of wins, Steele admitted the 2011 season in the F3 Cup will live long in his memory, in particular his triumph at Spa Francorchamps in June, where he beat his Austrian F3 Cup compatriots, which use more modern machinery.

He said: "I think I will look back on this year as a pivotal one. I hope I can build on this momentum now. Spa was out of this world it was definitely the best race of my career. To dominate and beat newer and quicker cars was a fantastic feeling and that will stick in my mind. The first race at Snetterton was great as nobody knew who was going to be quick but just to drive some of the tracks like the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit and Oulton Park has been great."
