Sunoco Grand Am 200 Challenge winner sweeps up at Silverstone

03/10/2011 - Buoyed by the success of claiming the Sunoco Grand-Am 200 Challenge, Aaron Steele completed another perfect weekend with victory in the second race of the F3 Cup at Silverstone on Saturday October 1.
The triumphant Kent driver once again had to battle hard in the early laps but after finding his way to the front, the Grays Motorsport driver took the chequered flag, with a comfortable lead. Chris Needham and Mark Terry filled the remaining podium places in what was the largest ever single-seater race in the UK, with 53 cars taking to the grid at the Silverstone Arena GP circuit.
Lancashire racer Needham made the best getaway from the start and he stormed into the lead, as the field streamed into the fast flowing Maggots and Beckets complex. However, Needham's hopes of victory were short-lived as Steele stormed through mid-way through the opening lap and he began to pull away. Needham soon had to protect his second position from the hard charging Mark Terry, who latched on to his gearbox and searched for a way past.
Mark Harrison struggled in the early stages and by lap three he found himself well down the order in 11th place overall. Mark Bailey Racing's Nick Robinson capitalised on Harrison's problems and was in pursuit of Terry and Needham in fourth with debutant Dittmann closely behind.
It was an altogether different story for Saturday's podium finisher Dave Karaskas, as mechanical issues saw him retire from the race along with Kat Impey.
Meanwhile at the front, Steele opened up an impressive lead and his next challenge was dealing with backmarkers. The closest battle on the circuit belonged to Needham and Terry as the pair diced for second place for several laps.
In the end, Steele recorded his 13th victory of the season from Needham and Terry, while Robinson finished a creditable fourth ahead of Dittmann and Stuart Wiltshire.
