18/09/12 - Former British Formula 3 National Class champion Jay Bridger will make his F3 Cup debut at the penultimate meeting of the season at the Silverstone GP circuit this weekend (21-23 September).

The 24-year-old experienced single seater racer will join up with the Omicron Motorsport team for his first competitive race since 2011.The Norfolk-based racer will bring a wealth of knowledge to the grid after claiming the 2008 British F3 National Class crown.

Bridger, who recorded five wins and 18 podiums to claim the National Class crown in 2008, has completed three seasons in British Formula 3 before budget constraints forced him to sit on the sidelines for the majority of last season. However he moved quickly when the opportunity arose to race for Omicron Motorsport, the team that run current championship leader Tristan Cliffe.

The Kent-born racer has been keeping an eye on the F3 Cup this season and is eager to drive a similar Dallara F307 car, to the one that he guided to glory in 2008. Despite admitting he is a bit race rusty, Bridger is hoping to challenge towards the front this weekend.

Bridger said: "It's been a bit of a late deal but I'm really looking forward to be back out racing again and in a car similar to the one which gave me the 2008 British F3 National Class title. It will bring back good memories for me and it is a chance to blow away some of the cobwebs after a couple of difficult years. It will be good as there is a chance I could be doing GT's next season.

"I have been following the F3 Cup. It is really picking up and is a competitive championship. I'm not sure quite how I will get on, but I would be more than happy to come away with a podium."

The F3 Cup is set for an enthralling 20 car battle on the Silverstone GP circuit with Cliffe, Chris Dittmann and Gino Ussi all hoping to enhance their title aspirations. Cliffe holds a 13.5 point lead from Dittmann with Ussi just half a point further back.
