06/08/2012 - James Cross is eager to prove his F3 Cup credentials when he plans to return to the grid at Brands Hatch on 18/19 August after missing the last three events with mechanical issues.
The reigning Toyota MR2 champion has switched to single seaters this year in the F3 Cup and has shown glimpses of pace capable of running in the top order, only to be thwarted by mechanical issues. After an engine rebuild, Cross intends to compete on the famous Kent circuit later this month and is determined to secure an impressive points haul.
Racing in the Cup Class with AW Tracksport, Cross' best finish to date was a well deserved fourth in class in treacherous wet conditions at Donington Park in April. Since then the 27-year-old has suffered from engine issues from his Dallara F302 which has caused him to miss races at Silverstone, Spa Francorchamps and Snetterton 300. However, with repairs due to be completed in time for Brands Hatch, he is desperate to return to racing.
He said: "I literally cannot wait to be racing again after a couple of tough months with engine problems. We have had some bad luck this season but I hope to have a good run out at Brands Hatch. When the car has been working we have been doing well and I think I have the pace to challenge some of the quick drivers.
"I feel I have something to prove as I really haven't had much of a chance to show my pace. Brands Hatch GP is one of my favourite circuits and it is up there with Spa for me so I can't wait."
Cross is expected to join a strong grid for rounds 11 and 12 where the title race is set to intensify with just 5.5 points separating the top two Tristan Cliffe and Chris Dittmann.
