F3 Cup set for Brands Hatch Grand Prix showdown

16/08/2012 - The F3 Cup rolls into Brands Hatch for the latest round of the championship with points becoming ever more vital this weekend.

16/08/2012 - The F3 Cup rolls into Brands Hatch for the latest round of the championship with battles for vital points set to rage around the legendary Grand Prix circuit this weekend (18/19 August).

With the season well and truly moving towards its climax, the Kent circuit could play a pivotal role in deciding the destiny of the F3 Cup championship. The championship will welcome its second largest grid of the season with 22 drivers all set to do battle for crucial points around a track steeped in Formula One history.

The battle to crown the inaugural F3 Cup champion couldn't be any closer with just eight races of the season remaining. Omicron Motorsport's Tristan Cliffe tops the driver's standings by just 5.5 points from former Ginetta Supercup racer Chris Dittmann. However, once dropped scores have been considered Dittmann has a slender 2.5 point advantage which will add to their on track battle for supremacy this weekend.

While Cliffe and Dittmann seem to be enjoying a battle of their own, Magic Motorsport's Mark Harrison, ex-Formula Ford racer Linton Stutely, Grays Motorsport's Gino Ussi and Silverstone race winner Louis Hamilton-Smith are lurking and are not out of the title race yet. All four will be eager to reel in Cliffe and Dittmann.

The midfield battle is growing stronger and stronger after each race and this will be no different at Brands Hatch. Chris Needham, James Abbott, Robbie Watts, Nick Robinson and Stuart Wiltshire have been making steady progress throughout the campaign and these drivers are set to produce another entertaining instalment of their entertaining battles.

Omicron Motorsport's Tony Bishop and Chris Dittmann Racing's Prajesh Shah are two drivers who have made leaps and strides this year. The pair have both moved into the midfield battles now with Bishop and Shah enjoying top 10 results in their last few outings. Both Bishop and Shah will be keen to continue their progress.

To add to the intrigue this weekend a whole host of drivers are returning to the championship. Belgium's Frank Thomas will make up a three car contingent for Mark Bailey Racing after missing the last round at Snetterton. Lanan Racing rejoin the F3 Cup paddock with 2011 podium regular Mark Terry, who will be competing in his first race of the season.

Winston Graham will make his first appearance since Silverstone in the Trophy Class and he will be joined by Philip Austin and Jeremy Timms. Neil Harrison is back on the grid after solving the issues with his Magic Motorsport Dallara similar to Matt Payne, who has been testing hard. F3 veteran Dave Karaskas will join the grid in a Masters car, a change from his Dallara F300.

With a packed grid of cars and championship points up for grabs, Brands Hatch GP is set for two thoroughly intriguing races this weekend.
