Lightning Lynn secures Spa double

18/06/2012 - Reigning Formula Renault UK champion Alex Lynn showed his class as he took his second lights to flag F3 Cup victory of the weekend at the demanding Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.

Starting from pole, Aaron Steele slotted in behind Lynn at La Source, and behind them 40 other cars jostled for position with several drivers locking their brakes trying to find empty space. The F3 Cup shared the grid with the Monoposto Championship.

Peter Venn was the first retiree, the Monoposto driver running out of room colliding with the rear of James Ledamun. Ledamun was able to continue and finish with a damaged rear wing.

During the first lap Chris Dittmann received another puncture, possibly during close racing with Gino Ussi and Robbie Watts as the championship leader's weekend worsened.  Dittmann's car getting squirrelly as it lost balance, and whilst limping back to the pits slid into his team mate Prajesh Shah, breaking his rear wing and damaging his wheel, his race over on the opening lap. Dittmann made it back to the pits where a replacement wheel was fitted and he went out again to score some points.

Omicron Motorsport's Tristan Cliffe lost a few places at the start and had dropped to seventh overall after lap one, but had climbed back to fourth on the second lap, and was racing Chris Needham for position. Needham got the breaks when passing backmarkers, and he started to creep clear of Cliffe in fourth.

Stuart Wiltshire had a strong race, keeping out of trouble in the opening laps, finishing fifth - his best result of the season, ahead of Mark Harrison sixth and Jeremy Timms in seventh, Timms winning the Trophy class once again. Behind him was Tony Bishop, one lap down, and the recovering Chris Dittmann. Nick Robinson rounded off the top 10 with James Ledamun winning the Masters class.

Watts retired after two laps with nose damage and Ussi retired the following lap.  James Simons retired on lap five, his car coming to a halt at the chicane.
