11/07/2012 - British F3 star Alex Lynn has hailed the emergence of the F3 Cup championship after recording an impressive double victory at Belgium's Spa Francorchamps circuit last month.

The reigning Formula Renault UK champion, who competes for Fortec in the 2012 British Formula 3 Championship, joined Lanan Racing for a one off outing in the F3 Cup at Spa on June 16/17, in a bid to gather important track time ahead of British F3's visit this month.

Lynn proved to be the star at Spa as he claimed two pole positions followed by two highly impressive lights-to-flag victories. The 18-year-old from Essex revealed he thoroughly enjoyed his weekend in the championship and believes it is a perfect way for drivers to sample F3 machinery. With running in both wet and dry conditions, he hopes the weekend will put him in a strong position come the British F3 round at Spa on 26-28 July.

Lynn said: "It was a really enjoyable weekend. It was stress free for me which allowed me to really enjoy my racing. The championship is great and the guys competing were fantastic to race with and really enjoy their racing, which was quite refreshing.

"I'd absolutely recommend it. If you are a driver who wants to drive a proper race car then the F3 Cup is the perfect championship to do so. It is great value for money which visits great circuits with cars that are not much slower than the current F3 cars.

"My objective was to get some track time as I have never driven Spa and the British F3 Championship heads there soon. I managed to get plenty of track time in both the wet and the dry so it was a good weekend for me with two wins as well. I hope it puts me in good stead when the British F3 visits Spa."

The F3 Cup heads to the famous Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit for rounds 11 and 12 of the championship on 18/19 August. Omicron Motorsport's Tristan Cliffe leads the championship standings by just 5.5 points from Chris Dittmann.
