MSVR enjoys bumper 2012 Brands Hatch launch
MotorSport Vision Racing, the racing division of MSV, announced their busiest season of motorsport today (Tuesday) at their annual Media Day.
MotorSport Vision Racing, the racing division of MSV, announced their busiest season of motorsport today (Tuesday) at their annual Media Day. Europe's fastest growing race organiser will enter its seventh season in 2012 with an expanded calendar of 34 race events.
MSVR also operates some of the UK's most successful and prestigious club racing series and championships, representatives of which were interviewed by MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer during a press conference.
"It's quite easy to think that motor racing is dominated by the big events," said Palmer. "But I think in many ways the club racing scene is a much better indication of the economic health of motorsport, and actually that health is very good indeed. Competitors want better value than ever and that's quite right. They want quality of events, efficient timetables, quality of racing and it's the achievement of it that is a significant factor in the success of MSVR."
Palmer also hailed the success of the F3 Cup, which has enjoyed big growth, particularly with the success of up and coming racer Aaron Steele, who had been unable to progress through the ranks of motorsport due to a lack of budget. Like many of MSVR's series, it has enjoyed huge growth under their stewardship.
"What is particularly exciting is the evolution of the F3 Cup," Palmer continued. "We took it over and I could certainly see the potential of running older F3 cars, which are still fantastic cars full of technology. In 2012 F3 Cup becomes a championship on the back of expanding grids and it's looking very exciting indeed."
Steele confirmed this success:"The appeal was the low cost level of technology in the cars and the fantastic circuits that the series goes to," he said. "It's also run very well and there's the prize-winning F2 test which is worth a lot - there's nothing even near that kind of quality in other series."
Amongst the other announcements were new series, from the extension of the Champion of Brands competition for Formula Ford cars to the new European-wide Super Series. The successful Golf GTI Championship has led to a new category for Mk IV Golf GTI and TDI models, whilst Lotus Cup UK has expanded to include Production and Supersport championships and Radical sportscars will hold the Radical European Masters in conjunction with the FIA. A new two-wheeled series was also unveiled for novice riders - the Club MSV Bike Trackday Trophy
Following the press conference, track sessions were held for MSVR's varied range of series, which also includes GT Cup, MINI Challenge, Radical Clubmans and UK Cups, Trackday Trophy and Team Trophy, Lotus on Track Elise Trophy, Monoposto Championship, Project 8 Production BMW and Racing Saloons, plus the VAG Trophy. Fans, who enjoyed free access to the venue for the event, were also treated to laps by a 1989 Team Lotus Formula One car.
MSVR will host its first 2012 race meeting at Brands Hatch on 24-25 March. Tickets are now on sale from £10 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information, cal 0843 453 9000 or click here. To visit the MSVR website, click here.
