Omicron Motorsport pleased after first F3 Cup test

13/03/2012 - Omicron Motorsport stepped up their preparations for the new F3 Cup season with a productive test day at Snetterton last week.

The visit to Norfolk's 2.99 mile circuit offered drivers Tristan Cliffe and Tony Bishop valuable time behind the wheel, as they gear up for their maiden F3 Cup campaigns, which begin with a trip to Oulton Park on Easter Monday.

Reigning Monoposto champion Tristan Cliffe completed a number of test runs in his Dallara F307 throughout the day, working on setups and lap times. The 30-year-old, who picked up a podium on his F3 Cup debut at Oulton Park last year, declared himself happy with the results from the test and is confident he will be on the pace come the season launch next month.

Cliffe said: "I blew the cobwebs off at Brands Hatch at the media day so the plan at Snetterton was to get out and try a few things on the car. I don't think I'm quite at Aaron Steele's pace around Snetterton last year yet but quicker than I was in the Monoposto Championship so far, so that's good. It's promising but there is still a lot more speed to come.

"Some of the test was about lap times but we have also been going through wing angles, ride heights and few other bits and bobs just to see how the car reacts. It wasn't a bad test day and I'm quietly confident I can go quicker and I'll be on the pace at Oulton."

The test day was the first outing in the Dallara F307 for Cliffe's team mate Tony Bishop, which the Whipsnade racer relished. Bishop, who is set to embark upon his first F3 Cup season, admitted he was pleased with the progress made at Snetterton despite a couple of minor issues.

Bishop said: "The new car isn't quite as much as a work out as the Dallara 304 I drove last year which is quite nice. It's comfortable and runs really well but we had a couple of issues with downshifting. It's good I'm well pleased with the test day."

Omicron Motorsport will head to Silverstone on Friday to continue their preparations ahead of the season opener at Oulton Park on April 9.
