08/09/12- Lanan Racing's Sean Walkinshaw smashed the Anglesey International circuit lap record to secure pole position on his F3 Cup debut.

Walkinshaw took his time to find his groove but once he found his rhythm he stormed to pole position with a record lap which was six tenths quicker than Gino Ussi. James Abbott managed to get the better of Mark Harrison and Tristan Cliffe to grab third.

The session began with Magic Motorsport's Harrison topping the timesheets early on before Abbott eclipsed his time with a superb lap. With the sun making an appearance and the track warming up, the times kept falling and Ussi lit up the screens to move into provisional pole.

Championship leader Cliffe made a slow start but he popped in a time good enough for fourth. Chris Dittmann's title hopes were dented as a blown engine in testing on Friday left him unable to take part in qualifying. However, his team mate Prajesh Shah showed flashes of genuine pace as he mixed it with the top four.

Walkinshaw was the last driver to enter the fray and after a couple of warm up laps he shot to provisional pole by just 0.083s from Ussi. He continued to improve lap on breaking the circuit lap record with an impressive 1.20.672s effort. Elsewhere Chris Needham and Dave Karaskas broke into the top six.

Despite the best efforts of the rest of the field nobody could take the pole away from Walkinshaw. Ussi and Abbott improved upon their times to secure second and third ahead harrison, Cliffe, Chris Needham, Shah and Dave Karaskas. The starting slots for Ussi and Abbott proved to be their best of the season so far.
