05/09/2012 - Rising single seater star Sean Walkinshaw has teamed up with Lanan Racing to make his F3 Cup debut at Anglesey for round seven this Saturday 8 September.
The 18-year-old, son of former F1 boss Tom Walkinshaw, has been playing his trade in the BARC Renault and Intersteps championships this season, steadily increasing his experience and profile in the sport. He heads into his debut F3 Cup meeting in fine form after picking up his maiden Intersteps podium with a third place at Rockingham just last weekend.
Walkinshaw, who is looking to make a name for himself in the British motorsport, is eager to get behind the wheel of his Dallara F302 race car, but is not setting himself any ambitious targets, considering this is his first taste of F3. Walkinshaw will race in the car which guided British F3 star Alex Lynn and FIA Formual Two driver Kourosh Khani to impressive double victories this season.
He said: "I have been hearing the F3 Cup is a strong and competitive championship so I thought I would give it a go and it is a great way to drive F3 machinery. The car will definitely be a step up from what i am used to so it will be interesting to see how I go.
"Lanan Racing are a strong team and I'm looking forward to running with them and driving a proven car which has won races this season."
Walkinshaw revealed his future is uncertain at the moment and admitted F3 Cup is a championship is a possibility for the 2013 season.
He added: "I'm not really sure what I will be doing next season, but the F3 Cup is something I will take into consideration."
