Cliffe wins fourth in a row in absorbing encounter

Tristan Cliffe made it two round six wins from two by leading home Alice Powell in the second race at Silverstone GP. The win gives him his fourth win in a row, and fifth in six races.

Louis Hamilton-Smith collected a fortuitous podium after Alex Craven stopped out on circuit from third with fuel filler problems.

Again Cliffe was beaten off the line, this time round by championship leader Powell. Cliffe was in front after two laps of looking for a way through that even included an unplanned trip over the grass, finally making it stick on lap three around the outside of Stowe. Powell didn't let him get away, but their early fighting allowed Craven behind to close the gap.

The front three were lapping closely and barely one second covered them for much of the race, Hamilton-Smith couldn't recover from losing time early on to make it a four-way fight. As Craven put more pressure onto Powell, the leading Cliffe was able to edge ever so slightly away. His brush with the greenery left him needing to manage temperatures though after hoovering up some grass, requiring him to nurse the Omicron Dallara home.

Another who suffered from high temperatures was Henry Chart. His good start was undone by a spin after clashing with Chris Headlam but the quick Enigma racer recovered and dispatched the closely running Olly Rae, James Cross and Headlam to begin the chase to Hamilton-Smith. His impressive charge was halted when the car's temperatures shot up forcing him to shut off the car as a precautionary measure to prevent further damage. His pace was good, but he was left frustrated.

James Cross benefitted from the two retirements in front to take fourth after enjoying a great fight all race long. Headlam had looked set for fourth after passing Cross until he spun to gift the position back to Cross. Olly Rae behind wasn't close enough to capitilise. Instead he had to settle for sixth and the Trophy 01 Class win to beat the ninth placed Dave Karaskas for the second time this weekend.

Mark Harrison took seventh ahead of Tony Bishop in eighth and Nick Robinson beat Jonathan Weston-Taylor to a top ten finish.
