Flying Cliffe looking to turn championship fight into three-way battle

Omicron Motorsport driver Tristan Cliffe is looking forward to round five of F3 Cup at Brands Hatch GP as the midway point in the 2013 season arrives. It's getting closer at the top with every race, and Alice Powell and Alex Craven are now looking over their shoulders for form-man Cliffe.

After contesting the opening round at Oulton Park in his 2012 car, the new Dallara arrived only just in time for Silverstone but it was quickly up to speed. The car has since been getting quicker and quicker, and Cliffe's been the recipient of the IWI Watches Fastest Lap award for two races running.

The first race win of the season arrived at Zolder, leading from start to finish in the opening race. Race two didn't quite go to plan and required a trip to the doctors after his fourth place finish. With the resultant car problems sorted, Cliffe is expecting a tight round.

"I love Brands, I particularly love the GP circuit. It's going to be quite interesting; Alice, Alex and Henry if he solves his engine problems - we're going to be there or thereabouts with each other. That's all part of the fun so we'll see what happens."

With the car now bedded in and Cliffe looking like one of the quickest on the F3 Cup grid this year, attentions can now turn to the championship. He's already thinking about retaining his class championship, which would likely be an outright championship win too.

"I'm 51 points behind Alice which is two wins I think and Alice hasn't had the best luck in the world with her own car letting her down in the last two meetings. But, she hasn't had really bad luck either. She's been finishing races and racking up the points. That will change, and she will have some races where she's out of the points with non-finishes. We all have bad luck, so we're not giving up yet. We're only half way.

"It's all to play for, so we're going to keep playing until I break the car or my back any more!"

The next round of F3 Cup is held at Brands Hatch on 27-28 July supporting BRDC F4. Tickets cost £10 in advance with free admission for children 12 years and under. Click here to book.
