Tristan Cliffe claimed his eighth pole in a row by beating Alice Powell to pole for race one at Snetterton's round seven.

Rain threatened as the drivers set about their first flying laps, and when it finally arrived just a handful of minutes were remaining in the session. Cliffe was rewarded for staying out by going even quicker late on, while championship leader Powell will start alongside her rival on the front row in second.

Powell had entered the session warily, unsure of whether the wholesale changes made overnight had solve the issues from Friday practice. Clearly they did, and the Mark Bailey Racing driver looked set for pole until Cliffe stayed out while the rest of the cars pitted. He then went faster by just 0.160 seconds.

The early pace setter was David Scott, this weekend running with the help of Chris Dittmann Racing. His pre-weekend expectations were instantly met and then exceeded as he spent the early stages on provisional pole. His whole session was spent in the top four, and will start an impressive third. Alex Craven, the third of the title contenders joins him on row two in fourth. The top four were closely matched throughout, and just 0.4s split them four before the drizzle came.

Louis Hamilton-Smith was typically quick and starts fifth ahead of Magic Motorsport's Mark Harrison, who had a couple of moments at Montreal and Murrays during the session. Olly Rae took another Trophy 01 Class pole in eighth, starting behind Stuart Wiltshire in seventh. Tony Bishop split the two Trophy 01 class runners in ninth ahead of Dave Karaskas and Nick Robinson, who starts eleventh.

Henry Chart's weekend ended before it had begun after a suspected broken finger turned out to be just badly bruised and the temperature issues from Silverstone returned, leaving him to miss the weekend.
