Tristan triumphs at Zolder

Omicron Motorsport's Tristan Cliffe managed to successfully convert pole position into his first win of 2013

Omicron Motorsport's Tristan Cliffe managed to successfully convert today's pole position into his first win of 2013, after a strong performance in the first race of the weekend.

Despite constant pressure from second place man Alex Craven, Cliffe kept it together to claim not only the win, but also the fastest lap of the race to secure another pole position for tomorrow's race. The pair gradually pulled away from third place Henry Chart, who put in a great run despite ongoing troubles with his car. Chart, after initially pulling away from the rest of the pack, came under pressure towards the end of the race from a storming Alice Powell who was forced to start from the Pit Lane after gear-change troubles prevented her getting to the grid for the start. Despite being stuck in one gear for much of the race, Powell fought her way through the pack to finish an admirable fourth place.

Dave Karaskas and Nick Robinson enjoyed a game of cat-and-mouse for much of the race, until a mistake from Robinson at Turn 5 a few laps from the end gave Karaskas the advantage and ultimately the better finish, with Frank Thomas completing the line-up.

The second race of the weekend (13:00 UK time on Sunday) should provide just as much excitement with the grid being formed from the drivers' fastest lap in race 1 as usual. As mentioned this gives Cliffe pole position again, this time followed by Craven, Powell, Chart, Robinson, Karaskas and Thomas. Weather conditions are still uncertain, though the drivers will no doubt be hoping for another dry run at this historic venue.
