Debut pole for Lanan's Sowery

Toby Sowery stormed to pole on his F3 Cup debut at Snetterton, nearly one second clear of his nearest challengers.

Tristan Cliffe came closest to matching the Lanan Racing youngster, but a series of blistering laps secured the pole with a time just 0.1s adrift of Aaron Steele's lap record. Louis Hamilton-Smith, running his new Dallara F307 for the first time, will start third ahead of Lee Morgan, also making his debut this weekend.

Olly Rae bettered his team-mate Henry Chart on an all-Enigma Motorsport row three, with an all-Gale Force Racing row four. Stuart Wiltshire enjoyed a good session and lines up on the inside of row four in seventh place ahead of Nick Robinson, who just pipped Tony Bishop by 0.041s. John Ferguson starts 10th ahead of fellow debutant Roberto Tirone.

All eyes though will be on poleman Sowery. The karting graduate was quickly up to speed, and was hardly troubled throughout the 25 minute session. Cliffe shaved the gap to around one tenth midway through the session, but Sowery continued to put in consistently quick lap times to stretch his cushion. Cliffe survived a late spin at Riches to remain second.

Henry Chart was the man to beat in the early stages, despite running in a borrowed Omicron car after engine issues in Friday testing. He finished the session just over three-tenths off third place-man Hamilton-Smith, but behind both Morgan and Rae.

Rae's fifth-place means he starts on the Trophy 01 class pole, and he survived an off-track adventure of his own.
