Karting star Toby Sowery has confirmed he will be stepping up to F3 Cup in 2014, joining
Lanan Racing.

Sowery has been a regular winner in karts, claiming the Super One Junior TKM title in 2011, the 2012 Rotax KartMasters and finishing fourth in the Formula KGP series last season. He tested a Formula Renault BARC during the winter but has decided to hone his trade in F3 Cup.

"This year is our first in cars and we didn't know where to start but we have come to the conclusion that F3 Cup would be our choice for this year. I'm ecstatic about it." Sowery said.

The Cambridgeshire youngster will be racing in the same Lanan Racing-prepared Dallara F305/7 that Alex Craven drove to the title last year. And although Lanan Racing were double winners in 2013 thanks to Jake Hughes' BRDC Formula 4 championship win, he isn't taking anything for granted as the season opener nears.

"It's going to be a huge task to take on", he added, "but I'm confident that we can achieve some strong finishes throughout the season. But as we all know, this is motorsport and anything can happen.

"I am aiming for a few podiums if not wins this season, but I know that we will up against some strong competition."

Stepping straight out of karts, Sowery has been busy collecting the required race signatures to be eligible for a National A licence. He's already been a winner on track though, taking a class victory in only his second ever car race in a Formula Ford 1600 last weekend.

Sowery's F3 Cup debut will be at Snetterton on 5/6 April. Tickets for the event start at £10 in advance, with free entry for under 13s. Click here to book.
