Jedi champion to feel the force of F3 Cup in 2014

Reigning Formula Jedi champion Lee Morgan is making the step up to F3 Cup in 2014 after joining multiple race-winners Grays Motorsport.

Morgan stormed to the Formula Jedi title last season, taking a dominant nine wins and one second place from 14 races. Only reliability issues denied the 24-year-old from Runcorn more victories; he was forced to retire from the lead three times.

Joining F3 Cup for 2014 was an easy decision for Morgan, explaining: "The fact that you get to race an F3 car with all the aerodynamics and the speed of it for such a great budget was the biggest reason I'm joining F3 Cup.

"There's not really anywhere else where you can race such a fast car with such advanced technology for such low cost."

Despite entering F3 Cup with a single seater championship freshly under his belt, he is acutely aware of the step up he is making. Racing among the front-runners is the main aim for the early part of the season at least.

He admitted: "At the minute, the target is to just get used to the car in the first few rounds. As long as I'm competitive I'll be happy. It might be a bit too early to say I can go out and win it but if I can be competitive I'll be thrilled."

He's teamed up with Wales-based outfit Grays Motorsport for the upcoming season, the squad that helped Aaron Steele to 12 wins in 2011 and Gino Ussi to third in the standings in 2012. With the team's winning pedigree, Morgan's unsurprisingly eager to get started with his new team and machinery.

"I'm running in a [Dallara] F307 with a Mugen Honda engine; it's a new car and engine for Grays this year and they're looking forward to getting it on track. It's should look a million dollars and I'm really looking forward to it. I can't wait."

Registration for the 2014 F3 Cup championship is now open, drivers and teams interested in joining the 2014 F3 Cup should contact championship co-ordinator Simon Davey on 07770 368648, email f3cup@msvracing.co.uk.
