Lanan key to Sowery's success
Championship leader Toby Sowery took maximum points for the second event in a row, and the youngster was full of praise for his Lanan Racing team.
Championship leader Toby Sowery took maximum points for the second event in a row, and the youngster was quick to praise his Lanan Racing team.
Sowery won both races from Silverstone from pole, and picked up the extra point for the fastest lap to move 31 points clear at the top of the standings.
He said: "It's been another perfect weekend, Lanan have done a great job setting the car up, teaching me how to drive it round these tracks, going through data, everything you can really cover they've done a good job in.
"Friday was beneficial in the wet because it's helped in these greasy conditions. It's made life easier."
Race two saw Sowery overtaken for the first time in 2014 when Tristan Cliffe got the jump on him at the start. The lead only lasted until the next corner, when Sowery drove round the outside of Maggotts. Sowery's wary of Cliffe, but looking forward to the challenge.
"It's a bit unfortunate that Tristan can't test as I'd like to see him mixing it with me, I'm sure at some point he'll be very close to us. It was the first time I'd been overtaken today. Tristan's miles better at starts, maybe we'll get up to his level this year.
"Conditions were easier, but in the dry it's harder to break a gap. Relatively the car was bang on."
The perfect start has also given Sowery a head start in the Sunoco-backed prize drive that takes the most successful eligible driver to America to race on the 24 Hours of Daytona bill.
"I really want to nail the championship, if we win the Sunoco drive too that would be an amazing achievement."
It's not only the title in Sowery's sights but also collecting as many lap records as he can, something he came close to three weeks ago at Snetterton.
"I saw the times were just over the two minute barrier but I wanted to get under that so I was pushing for the whole race. We wanted the lap record at Snetterton but didn't get it, I want some this year for sure."
Fastest lap at Rockingham in just under one months' time will guarantee him at least one lap record as the championship makes its debut at the circuit.
Rounds five and six take place at Rockingham Motor Speedway on 24-25 May.
