Sowery takes title with Cup Class win as Lloyd converts pole

Hywell Lloyd converted his pole into the win but Toby Sowery stole the headlines with a Cup 07 Class win to seal the 2014 F3 Cup title.

Hywell Lloyd converted his pole into the win but Toby Sowery stole the headlines with a Cup 07 Class win to seal the 2014 F3 Cup title.

Needing to finish in sixth place or better, Sowery got a good getaway to follow Lloyd off the line. He held position to take second on the road ahead of nearest title challenger Cliffe to take a maiden championship win.

Cliffe battled past Hamilton-Smith in fourth to take second in class.

Tony Bishop took his best result of the year in fifth ahead of Henry Chart, who had an eventful race featuring a number of spins. The Trophy 01 Class win went to Weston-Taylor.

Lloyd and Sowery matched each other's launch to disappear into Copse, but behind, Chart snuck around the outside of Cliffe, who struggled away. Hamilton-Smith passed him on the inside, dropping Cliffe to fifth. Chart suffered a poor lap and almost came to a complete stop to fall back into the middle of the pack.

Lloyd, Sowery, Hamilton-Smith and Cliffe toured as one, before the top two were able to eke away as Cliffe tried to force a move. It eventually came off, and he steadily dropped Hamilton-Smith.

Chart recovered from his slowing, but soon spun to undo his fine work that had dragged himself back into the top six. Another spin left him with more ground to make up and he squeezed into the top six again with a handful of laps to go. Bishop, up the road in fifth, was untroubled.

Harrison missed on a top six finish after losing out Chart, having earlier come out on top of his usual battles with Stuart Wiltshire. He was comfortably clear of Lee Morgan, who could only manage ninth. Weston-Taylor completed the runners to take his first Trophy 01 Class win of the year.

Oliver Rae and Nick Robinson had an early coming together, retiring both and Lee McCrumlish pitted to retire after five laps.

Sowery added the point for fastest lap to add to his championship-winning margin, claiming the Cup Class pole alongside Lloyd.
