Morgan looking to kick-start season following best-ever finish

A brace of third-in-class finishes at the last rounds at Spa-Francrochamps, Belgium, has given Lee Morgan a confidence boost at the midway mark of the 2014 F3 Cup season.

The two podiums bettered Morgan's best-ever finish in the championship, two fifth-places at Silverstone in April, and moved him to third in the points standings.

It was the 2013 Formula Jedi champion's first taste of racing at the home of the Belgian Grand Prix, and the perfect place to score his best-ever result.

Morgan said: "All round it was a great result. It's a fantastic track and it was great fun driving it. Two third places were as good as we could have expected really because Toby was fast all weekend. It was a good result to kick-start the second half of the season with."

Morgan was in the thick of the action all weekend, battling hard with Mark Harrison, particularly in round eight on Sunday.

"Mark and I were pretty close on every lap, I think he was running less wing, so I was catching him in the corners, but he dragged a gap out on the straights. It made it a good battle. I finally got past into the last corner on the brakes and was able to run him a little wide. I got the power down to hold him off and then managed to get away.

"We dropped the pack quite quickly and it was then a case of picking through the traffic as quickly and as cleanly as possible."

F3 Cup next races at Oulton Park on Saturday 18 July. Morgan will be hoping for better fortunes there than he suffered in his Jedi last season - it was the only weekend in 2013 he failed to reach the top step, and gave him first DNF of the year.
