Powell returning for Rockingham

F3 Cup 2013 runner-up Alice Powell is returning to the championship this weekend at Rockingham Motor Speedway for rounds five and six of 2014.

F3 Cup 2013 runner-up Alice Powell is returning to the championship this weekend at Rockingham Motor Speedway for rounds five and six of 2014.

Ex-GP3 racer Powell will be making her debut for Gale Force Racing, who currently lie second in the teams' standing. She will be piloting the Toyota-powered Dallara F307 she drove to second in the championship last season.

The Chipping Norton racer claimed five wins from her 18 races in 2013, including three of the first four races. Her last win in the championship came in race two at Zolder.

This weekend will be her second visit to the Rockingham Motor Speedway inside three weeks after racing with Carlin in British F3 at the start of the month, finishing third in race two.

Powell will be partnering championship regular Nick Robinson at Gale Force Racing, and she says collecting a healthy haul of teams' championship points is the main aim for the weekend. She admits the race win could be difficult against championship leader Toby Sowery.

"I'm looking forward to it," Powell said. "I thought I'd come along to help Mike Gale out for the first time. Hopefully I can pick up a few more points for the teams' championship alongside Nick, he's been doing well this year.

"Toby's quick, I've never raced against him. It will be tough to beat him but I will need to adapt back to the Toyota as quickly as I can."

With no testing under her belt, she will be looking to make the most of Saturday's 25-minute qualifying session ahead of Sunday's two races. Round five starts at 12:20 before round six at 17:35.
