Rockingham double for Powell
Alice Powell made it two wins in two ahead of championship leader Toby Sowery in round six at Rockingham Motor Speedway.
Alice Powell made it two wins in two on her championship return ahead of championship leader Toby Sowery in round six at Rockingham Motor Speedway.
Tristan Cliffe completed the top three, ending Louis Hamilton-Smith's run of podiums with Oliver Rae and Mark Harrison in fifth and sixth.
Cliffe's getaway was the exact opposite of his earlier start, leaping from fourth to second off the line around the outside. A move for the lead at turn one was closed off by Powell, who scurried away as Cliffe went defensive on Sowery. Morgan lost out to Sowery on the opening lap.
Sowery was glued to the gearbox of Cliffe and stuck it out around the outside of Tarzan. The move was finally completed at the entry to the Brook chicane thanks to his inside line. Cliffe stayed with him but was dropped as Sowery set about claiming the IWI Watches Fastest Lap of the Weekend Award.
Powell then crept into his grasp and an attempted pass at the hairpin failed, and his thoughts turned to the championship, knowing he's racing Cliffe not Powell for the title.
Behind, Cliffe staved off Hamilton-Smith's attentions and built a gap which stretched to nearly five seconds at the flag. Oliver Rae kept tabs on Hamilton-Smith but could only settle for fifth.
The trio of Mark Harrison, Tony Bishop and Lee Morgan converged late on and it was Harrison who came out on top. Morgan ran as high as third in the early stages but was squeezed out to sixth before a five second penalty moved him back on the timesheets but didn't affect his finishing position.
Nick Robinson rounded out the field with more points for Gale Force Racing.
