Perfect start to F3 Cup for Sowery

Toby Sowery admitted he couldn't have asked for a better start to his F3 Cup career after converting his pole postion into a debut win at Snetterton.

Toby Sowery admitted he couldn't have asked for a better start to his F3 Cup career after converting his pole postion into a debut win at Snetterton.

The Lanan Racing newcomer was in a league of his own on debut, taking the win by over 17 seconds.

Sowery said: "Pole in qualifying and win in the race: I couldn't have asked for much more. Hopefully we can make many more through the year. It's the perfect start in F3 Cup, we didn't lose a place. Hopefully we can do it all again in race two."

At the start, the 17-year-old matched the getaway of Tristan Cliffe alongside on the front row. Two corners of wheel-to-wheel duelling ensued, but Sowery was able to squeeze ahead.

"Tristan has obviously got more experience than I have and at the moment is better. He got around the outside, I gave him room and he gave me room but he led at the first corner." Sowery explained.

"With him outside, it was actually beneficial for me as it allowed me to get up the inside of the hairpin. We were side-by-side going into Montreal and then it was a matter of who braked the latest. We were on the inside so got the best run."

Thoughts before the race were on the lap record held by Aaron Steele since 2011.

"It was quite slow in comparison to qualifying so no record." he said. "There was a yellow flag out for the first four or five laps when we would have been quickest, and after that I took it a bit easier."

Sowery will be on pole for the second race from Snetterton, once again beside Tristan Cliffe on the front row. He admits he will want to improve his start to make the win even more comfortable.
