Teams’ championship the focus for Stanbridge Motorsport

The returning Stanbridge Motorsport will launch a two-car attack on F3 Cup in 2014, led by team owner James Simons and ex-Formula Renault BARC racer Rob Tirone.

Stanbridge Motorsport hope to run a third, as yet un-filled car in the championship as the squad concentrates on racking up the points in the teams' championship.

"That's definitely where our focus is this season." Simons admitted. "We've got a good team assembled and as a team owner I need to make sure our drivers come first.  We had been doing a lot of preparation and testing on Rob's car for most of last year and were hoping to have a car out at the end of last season.

"Rob and I both raced in Formula Renault at the same time so we know each other well and when he was looking to switch to F3 Cup he came to me."

While the year on the sidelines was spent running cars in Monoposto and priming Tirone's Dallara F301 for a Trophy 01 class assault this season, it also saw the arrival of Simons' own Dallara F307. The car's been treated to a complete overhaul since it arrived at Stanbridge HQ in Buckinghamshire and he will be back behind the wheel himself the Cup 07 class.

The 30-year-old is relaxed about returning to the racetrack, and clearly excited by the upcoming season: "I've had a couple of years out of doing a full season so I'll be checking I haven't lost my touch! I didn't get out last season though so I'm really looking forward to it."

The first round of F3 Cup takes place at Snetterton on the weekend of 5-6 April. Tickets start at £10 in advance with children 12 years and under get in free. Click here to book tickets.
