F3 Cup unveils 2015 calendar for revamped championship

Organisers confident new cars and revised race format will prove a hit with competitors

The provisional 2015 F3 Cup Championship calendar has been announced today, with leading UK circuits Brands Hatch GP, Silverstone GP and Donington Park all featured, together with a revamped race format.

With cars built from 2008 to 2011 eligible for the first time, F3 Cup will be the only championship in the UK for contemporary Formula 3 cars next season. Organisers MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR) expect the newer chassis, which will be equalised with existing cars in the Cup Class for cars built from 1 January 2002, to provide a low-cost route for aspiring young drivers as well as amateur racers seeking a high-performance single-seater formula.

In addition to the Cup Class, F3 Cup will once again feature two further regular classes, with machinery constructed between 1 January 1997 and 31 December 2001 racing in the Trophy Class, and cars built between 1 January 1981 and 31 December 1996 competing in the Masters Class. Cars that are not normally eligible for the championship will still be allowed to enter the Invitation Class, at the organisers' discretion.

The championship's value-for-money ethos will also be enhanced in 2015 with a new race format in which four of the seven rounds will consist of three races spread over two days. The revamped format will feature a pair of 15-minute sprint races and a single 20-minute feature race.

In addition to races at Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Donington Park, the championship will support the British GT Championship at Oulton Park over Easter weekend, and visit the Snetterton 300 circuit in July. The season will come to an exciting close on the full Silverstone Grand Prix layout. A European round is also set to be announced shortly.

David Scott, MSVR's Race Operations Manager, said: "With the demise of the British F3 Championship, it was important to allow newer F3 machinery into F3 Cup. With the class revisions and a new three-race format, we're confident that the 2015 F3 Cup Championship will prove to be an attractive proposition for aspiring young drivers, like current champion Toby Sowery, and amateur racers alike."
