Comeback kid Aaron Steele targets F3 Cup title

Former F3 Cup ace Aaron Steele will return to the series this year for an assault on the championship with Grays Motorsport.

Former F3 Cup ace Aaron Steele will return to the series this year for an assault on the championship with Grays Motorsport.

The 26-year-old was the star of the 2011 F3 Cup season, the last before the series attained championship status. His 15 pole positions and 14 wins that year earned him a prize test in a Formula 2 car and he also claimed the Sunoco Challenge, winning a drive in a Daytona 24 Hours-supporting race.

Since then budgetary constraints have restricted his motorsport programme, aside from a one-off appearance with Grays Motorsport at Snetterton late last year, where he finished race one in sixth place.

The Rochester-based driver has raced in Formula BMW, Formula Renault BARC and Formula Palmer Audi. He has also been nominated for the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award and was a rookie driver with A1GP Team Great Britain in 2009. He will be making his full-time racing comeback in a Dallara F307 Mugen in the Cup Class and will be targeting a full title attack.

"I'm really looking forward to competing back in F3 Cup in 2015 with Grays Motorsport," Steele said. "Last time in 2011 we had such a successful season, who wouldn't want to have a go at repeating that?

"The opportunity to get the old team back together for another go was just too good of an opportunity to miss. The only thing better than racing, is racing in a team of friends. I have to say a huge thank you to Jon Jnr, John Snr and Roma Gray for making this happen. The thought of getting the opportunity later this summer to go back through Eau Rouge, flat out in Formula 3 machinery, is enough to keep me up at night.

"There's still plenty of hard pre-season prep to do, such as understand the new Pirelli tyres and their characteristics, but we will get there and hopefully be fighting for victory at Oulton Park."

The 2015 F3 Cup season kicks off at Oulton Park on 6th April. If you are interested in joining the action, please contact championship coordinator Simon Davey on 07770 368648, email f3cup@msvracing.co.uk. For all the latest news and further announcements visit www.f3cup.co.uk.
