Kieran cleans up with Donington hat-trick
Chris Dittmann Racing enjoyed a perfect weekend with another double podium
The third race of the weekend for F3 Cup took place under glorious spring sun, and it was Kieran Vernon on pole position after victory in race two. The big news was that Aaron Steele would be starting from the pit lane due to a clutch problem with the car, promoting the remainder of the grid up one position. Stuart Wiltshire would, therefore, start from second place on the grid with Daniel Tapinos third.
As the lights went out, Wiltshire and Tapinos stormed off the line, however, Vernon was very slow away and dropped immediately down the order. Vernons' problems were short lived, and by the end of lap one he was back up in second place behind leader Stuart Wiltshire. Jacopo Sebastiani, also had a difficult first lap, dropping back after a trip through the gravel trap.
Wiltshire continued to lead until the start of lap 5, when team mate Vernon made a move for the lead at Redgate. An action packed couple of laps followed; Aaron Steele was the man on the move, passing Daniel Tapinos for third on lap 6, swiftly followed by Wiltshire at the end of lap 8.
At the front, Vernon continued to extend his lead in dominant fashion over Steele and Wiltshire, setting the fastest lap of the weekend in the process. Jacopo Sebastiani sat comfortably in fourth after Tapinos took a trip through the gravel trap at the chicane.
The chequered flag fell at the end of lap 19, and it was Vernon who came through to take the spoils, his third race win of the weekend. Aaron Steele came home in second after a strong drive through the field, while Stuart Wiltshire took another third place to add to those from races one and two.
Daniel Tapinos was rewarded with the Sunoco Driver of the Weekend Award after consistently improving over the weekend despite never having previously driven at Donington Park. The IWI Watches Fastest Lap Award went to Kieran Vernon after he set a time of 1:02.337 in race three.
