Zach scores Snetterton hat-trick

Carlin's Zach Claman de Melo enjoyed a lights-to-flag victory in a very wet third race in Norfolk

The final race of this weekend (26 July) was again declared a wet race; however this time there was no doubt in the tyre choice as the rain fell steadily and everyone opted for the Pirelli wets. Zach Claman de Melo had pole position, alongside Aaron Steele. The pair made a clean getaway after two green flag laps, with Steele in particular doing his best to draw alongside the Carlin driver. He couldn't quite do enough to make a move for the lead into the first corner though, and from that point on Claman de Melo had full control of the race. A number of cars spun through the middle section of the first lap, mixing the order up as they all battled with the rain and spray.

Another close battle emerged between Chart and Steele, with the pair separated by 0.325s after the first couple of laps. Louis Hamilton-Smith and Jacopo Sebastiani were also tussling further down the field, as the Red Bull Racing engineer fought to get past the Omicron driver. Wade Eastwood meanwhile was enjoying his best race of the weekend, revelling in the soaking conditions and managing to fend off both Stuart Wiltshire and Daniel Tapinos. Eventually Wiltshire would get past, but Eastwood certainly made him work for it.

Past the halfway point, most of the drivers began to spread out around the three mile circuit, although Hamilton-Smith showed no signs of relenting in his pursuit of Sebastiani. James Ledamun had a moment at the Brundle/Nelson complex, forcing him onto the grass but he was able to rejoin in clear space. Daniel Tapinos repeated Ledamun's mistake just a lap later.

Steele managed to out-brake himself at Montreal on the penultimate lap, and Chart was quick to capitalise on this and take the Cup Class lead. Hamilton-Smith closed the gap to Sebastiani to just 0.5s and finally managed to work his way past to put himself on the podium.

At the chequered flag, Claman de Melo made it a Snetterton hat-trick for Carlin, as Chart took Cup Class honours and full championship points.

Aaron Steele was awarded the Sunoco Driver of the Weekend award after an outstanding performance in race two, balancing his Gray's Motorsport Dallara perfectly on slick tyres in the tricky conditions.
