Jacopo starts strong at Oulton
Championship leader started the weekend as he needed to, securing pole position for the first race of the day
F3 Cup's final round of the year got underway at Cheshire's Oulton Park this morning, and championship leader Jacopo Sebastiani secured the perfect start as he stormed to pole position for the first race of the day.
In cloudy but dry conditions, the pack set off with UWR's Shane Kelly leading the way. Kelly needs to score well today to keep his title hopes alive, and was quick to get on the pace.
It wasn't long however before the times began to tumble, with Robbie Watts taking over the top of the table. Kelly and Sebastiani traded fastest laps too, as reigning champion George Line was forced to return to the pits for attention from his CF Racing mechanics.
Shortly after, Malcolm Scott came unstuck at Druids, and recovery of his car necessitated a red flag stoppage. The cars returned to the pits, and the session resumed with just under 10 minutes on the clock after a short break.
Sebastiani was quick to reclaim the top spot in the second part of the session, but Irishman Cian Carey found his form and shot to the top of the times. Sebastiani responded, but the pair were soon under pressure from Wade Eastwood, aiming to make the most of the closing minutes.
At the chequered flag, it was Sebastiani who lead from Eastwood with Carey in third place. Championship challenger Kelly was fourth, ahead of Stuart Wiltshire and Robbie Watts.
