Jacopo Sebastiani crowned 2017 F3 Cup champion at Oulton Park
The final race of the 2017 season saw the new champion close the year in style
F3 Cup's last race of the year at Oulton Park saw a new champion crowned - and in some style.
Following Shane Kelly's retirement in the first race of the day, Sebastiani's championship win was all but secured and starting on pole he made it clear the year would end on a high. As the lights went out, he took control of the race, pursued by Cian Carey who made a spectacular start.
The pair were joined by Kelly, and the three of them controlled the race for the majority of its duration. They were joined later on by Wade Eastwood, who pushed Kelly to try to take third place but he responded and soon found himself catching Carey. He in turn picked up the pace but was unable to catch the rapid Sebastiani, who made a showcase of the pace he has had all year to claim not only the race win, but the Sunoco Fastest Lap Award to boot.
Speaking on the podium, Sebastiani said, "I feel great! Relieved, it's in the bag now. Very happy. It's been a very good season, I managed to finish every race. I've got a fantastic team, great team mates who keep me on the edge! I'll be on the phone now - you need an old man in Formula 1 and I'm sure I could do a good job!"
