Racing Wolves Regroup for Fresh Attack
The third driver to be announced for 2018 is double F3 Cup Vice Champion Shane Kelly
Shane returns with the University of Wolverhampton Race Team (UWR), the squad which has carried him to within touching distance of the championship title for two years running. The UWR team comprises the professional racing branch in F3 Cup, the design and development branch undertaking IMechE Formula Student plus the racing development branch (the factory works team for the Morgan Motor Company) alongside numerous other projects.
UWR is made up of students in various team roles under the guidance of experienced staff from the professional motorsport industry. While studying for their university degrees, students spend their evenings and weekends gaining valuable industry experience in professional motor racing, developing road cars via racing, or designing and building a race car from scratch.
With aspirations to work in motorsport one day, the engineering students are taught how to run a car professionally under the help and guidance of university staff. Their professional approach and passion for racing has seen them take second place in 2016 and 2017 in F3 Cup, coming within a single point of the overall title in their debut year, collecting a string of race wins along the way.
As the team’s pro driver, Shane is tasked with making the very most of the students’ hard work. He will be keen to repeat his opening round performances thus far – hat-tricks of wins at the Donington Park season opener are now his trademark and always seem to set the team off on the right foot!
F3 Cup’s 2018 season kicks off at the revamped Donington Park circuit on 21-22 April. Regular driver announcements will be made in the lead up to the first rounds, so be sure to keep an eye on the refreshed F3 Cup website and social media channels for all the latest news.
