Grand Prix Battles, Part 2: Brands Hatch

F3 Cup tackles its second Grand Prix circuit of the year this weekend, as the championship heads to Kent

Just a fortnight after the Silverstone Summer Showdown, F3 Cup arrives at Brands Hatch for another weekend on an epic Grand Prix circuit. The full Brands Hatch layout is a favourite with the drivers and these Formula 3 cars are perfectly suited to the fast, sweeping corners of the GP loop.

Championship leader Cian Carey enjoyed another strong weekend in Northamptonshire, collecting two podium finishes (including an outright win) and a fastest lap. In doing so he eked out a slightly bigger lead over rival George Line, despite Line enjoying his first win of the year. He will be keen to keep his title hopes alive this weekend.

The University of Wolverhampton’s Shane Kelly scored some valuable points at Silverstone, including a fastest lap point but the team, sticklers for detail, won’t be happy with fifth place in the second race and will pull out all the stops to get Kelly back on the podium this weekend.

CF Racing’s Stuart Wiltshire scored well at Silverstone too, making a valuable contribution to the team regaining the lead in the Team’s Championship standings. Wiltshire has traditionally run very well at Brands and will be one to watch this weekend. Together with team mates Line, Tony Bishop and Stefano Leaney, the squad will all be working hard to extend that lead this weekend.

Joining Carey at Chris Dittmann Racing are Philip and Patrick Jeans, who make their return after missing both Oulton Park and Silverstone. The father and son duo are very competitive in their striking blue Dallaras and will be joined by the returning Gino Ussi. Ussi returned to the championship after a long break last year, and this weekend marks his 2019 debut.

Darragh Daly returns for Team Fox Racing, with support from Stephen Fitzpatrick. Also returning this weekend is James Simons, whose Stanbridge Motorsport outfit will run his eye-catching F310.

As is traditional on the GP circuit, the drivers will have two races this weekend to bring home those all important points, so expect some very fast laps alongside close racing this weekend, with battles throughout the field.
