The Donington Double - Chapter 2

Donington Park welcomes F3 Cup for the second time this year

Donington Park welcomes F3 Cup for the second time this year – following the cancellation of the Silverstone National round due to the track resurfacing, the drivers will have a second bite at the East Midlands cherry this weekend (28/29 September).

Last time out at Brands Hatch GP, championship leader Cian Carey didn’t quite have it all his own way. A forced engine change after qualifying saw him relegated to the back of the grid for the first race, only to suffer a DNF in that race as the car stalled at Clearways. A strong comeback in race two however brought home a good points haul to maintain his lead in the standings.

The University of Wolverhampton Racing’s Shane Kelly enjoyed a very consistent weekend in Kent, with good pace and sharp race-craft leading to two second place finishes. He now trails Carey by just 23 points.

George Line trails Carey by 35 points in third place, and remains in title contention as the championship heads into its penultimate round. Consistent results will be key with six races left this season.

Darragh Daly enjoyed a strong weekend at Brands, collecting his first win for the year in race two. He sits just ahead of Stuart Wiltshire, who raced in the Invitation class at Brands in his newer-spec car. Wiltshire’s CF Racing team mate Tony Bishop suffered a DNF in race one but continues to show good pace in his new car. Also in the CF Racing stable, Stefano Leaney collected another win on the GP circuit in August to continue his strong form.

Chris Dittmann return to the grid this weekend, representing his eponymous squad. Sitting just behind CF Racing in the Teams’ standings, they will be keen to score those all-important points to retake the lead.

Stephen Fitzpatrick will fly the Team Fox Racing flag at Donington, having shown good form at Brands Hatch. Adrian Holey and the Stanbridge Motorsport crew also make a welcome return, after missing Brands Hatch due to clashing commitments.

As is traditional on the National circuit, the drivers will have three races this weekend to bring home those all important points, so expect some very fast laps alongside close racing this weekend, with battles throughout the field.
