Northern lights beckon F3 grid

F3 Cup arrives at Cheshire's Oulton Park this weekend after an enthralling visit to Snetterton in May

Championship leader Cian Carey enjoyed a flawless weekend in Norfolk, picking up three class wins, three championship pole positions and three fastest lap points. He now enjoys a 40 point lead over title rival George Line, but with 30 points available for each race win, that could very easily change this weekend.

2016 F3 Cup Champion, Line had a strong weekend in Norfolk, picking up three podium finishes and will be pleased with his return to form. Third in the standings, Shane Kelly enjoyed two podiums but missed out in the final race of the weekend with a non-finish after running wide on cold tyres. His University of Wolverhampton Racing team worked hard to deal with a battery failure after qualifying, and will be hungry for success again at their ‘home’ round.

Carey’s team manager Chris Dittmann returns to action this weekend, and the 2012 Champion always impresses on track. His eponymous squad leads the Teams’ standings after a strong start to the year.

CF Racing fields their typically strong line up, adding Stuart Wiltshire, Tony Bishop and Stefano Leaney. Wiltshire and Bishop round out the top five in the drivers’ standings, and the team’s consistency has helped them to secure second place in the standings, just 16 points behind their rivals.

Darragh Daly has had a mixed start to the year, with strong finishes interspersed with two DNFs, but his pace is never in doubt. This was confirmed with a decent score of points at Snetterton and he will be keen to build on that form this weekend.

James Simons leads his Stanbridge Motorsport team into battle again at Oulton Park, with Adrian Holey alongside. The team will miss Roberto Tirone this weekend, who had a troubled weekend at Snetterton.

Having become accustomed to three race formats so far this year, the drivers will have only two races to bring the points home this weekend, so expect the racing to be tight.
