Silverstone Summer Showdown

F3 Cup returns to action this weekend after the summer break, with Formula 1’s British home providing the next challenge on the calendar.

Last time out, Oulton Park threw in the added challenge of wet conditions and a number of the championship contenders missed out on valuable points. In fact current leader Cian Carey was one of them, with a DNF in race two his first non-scoring result this year. He still maintains a reasonably healthy lead over rival Shane Kelly, whose team University of Wolverhampton Racing ensured he was able to achieve two strong finishes to keep his title hopes strong.

2016 champion George Line currently sits third in the table – enjoying a much stronger season than the last couple of years, Oulton Park was also his first non-scoring result but he currently trails Kelly by just five points – an easy margin to overcome this weekend if luck is on his side.

A brace of F3 Cup stalwarts occupy the middle of the top ten – CF Racing team mates Stuart Wiltshire and Tony Bishop sit either side of 2012 Champion Chris Dittmann.

Wiltshire has had a consistent year so far and will be keen to sample the silverware at Silverstone, while Bishop has been scoring well despite learning a new car. Stefano Leaney joins them under the CF Racing banner again this weekend.

Dittmann has shown his class every time, rounding out the top five despite missing the three Donington Park races altogether. His eponymous team fields a particularly strong entry this weekend, with Carey and Dittmann joined by father and son duo Philip and Patrick Jeans, and David Gillett.

Stanbridge Motorsport is represented by the sole entry of Adrian Holey this weekend, as team manager James Simons also fields an entry in the GT Cup Championship.

Team Fox Racing returns with two familiar faces, in Darragh Daly and Stephen Fitzpatrick

As is traditional on the GP circuit, the drivers will have two races this weekend to bring home those all important points, and these modern Formula 3 cars are perfectly suited to the fast, aero-dependent corners. Expect some very fast laps alongside close racing this weekend, with battles throughout the field.
